Most problems with diesels have to do with the fuel delivery system from the tank to the injector pump inlet. Next turn the engine over in 3-5 second intervals until you see fuel coming out of the loose injector lines. They it had a fuel leak on the injection pump and when they started it it would run wide open and to get it to shut off they would half to shut the fuel off.
